Freies Wort – June 10, 2013
Alfred Erck
On Saturday evening, the young Dutch prodigies Lucas (20) and Arthur Jussen (16) were the stars of the concert at the CCS. An audience of 750 listeners showered the two brothers with sustained applause. There were also standing ovations for the MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra under the baton of American guest conductor James Gaffigan. Dreamy or vivacious-breezy, then mellow and harsh, and running in rapid flourishes through the “Fairy Garden”, the brothers offered – always clearly arranged, well-coordinated and occasionally with a breath of poetry – those hints of fairytale characters animated by reminiscences that Ravel associated with his “Mother Goose”.
